Anyway, I just wanted to mention that everything I've ever read has said that signing actually helps a child speak SOONER. It opens them up to the idea of something having a name and making the connection between the word and the object. And you say the word as you sign, so they get the double dose. I have two daughters, 2 yrs and (almost) 9 months. We sign with them. By 18 months my older daughter knew so many signs and words we stopped counting. Our younger daughter has been signing 'milk' for about a month, and just started 'more' yesterday. It's such a joy to see them learn and experience communication!
